Vanessa "Going Places" 2007
Never redressed.
This was the convention souvenir doll that year.

Vanessa "Night Warrior" 2009
Dolly Style Convention (Japan) Souvenir Doll
Wearing dress from Tatyana Alexandrova "Nouveau Regime."

The original doll was highly sought after. Back in 2009 $245. (¥26250.00) plus postage from Japan was a goodly sum and there were only 300.
I was lucky in those days and got pretty much every doll I wanted either through lotteries or my dealer.

She is wearing an RnD fashion.  I crimped her hair and had her repainted by Vin Trapani. I love both of them!

Vanessa "Luxe Life" 2009
She is one of the very few dolls I own who has never been redressed.

The unwelcomed, surprise sculpt change for Vanessa began my detachment from collecting Integrity Toys. I no longer collected my treasured Vanessa dolls and virtually stopped buying any Fashion Royalty dolls for a while. Many of us called the new sculpt "Fauxnessa."

Daily Dose of Vanessa - Pale Fire

Today's featured Vanessa is "Pale Fire" from the 2007 Premium line. She sold for $159.99 and was an edition of 1000. Pale Fire was on the original tall body and had applied eyelashes.
This was the time during which the dolls' face paint was air brushed beautifully and the fashions and accessories were exquisite. I don't recall quality control issues.

IT's promotional photo:

Pale Fire is an example of a doll I couldn't wait to get and yet didn't wind up loving until years later. After a while, I took her dress apart because it was too pouffy for me. I took her hair down and rooted in some reddish tones and she became a completely different doll.

About 2-1/2 years ago, another collector listed a NRFB Pale Fire for less than the original retail and I went for it. It's not the first time as I'm sure my readers know.

Now I display both of them side by side amongst my treasured collection of Vanessas.

The jewelry and construction of the dress were perfection.
Gorgeous makeup - no clownish eyebrows.

Who's That Vanessa?

Aerodynamic Vanessa - the original - had surprising black lips and beautiful red hair pulled back into a straight pony tail.

I freed her hair and crimped it.

Then I had her repainted.
And then I bought another one who had been rerooted.

She was not a popular doll at first. Now all the original Vanessas are sought after.  Who is your favorite?

You're in the Right Place and Seeing Double

I've changed the template on my blog; no, you are not lost.

This past year I purchased two NRFB versions of older FR dolls which I had either rerooted or altered in some other way. I like having both the original and the reworked doll in this case because when I looked back at original dolls I wish I had left them unaltered. This is how they look right now. I will give the new one a tall body as the first articulated FR body is so very short!
"Intoxicating Mix" Vanessa was the convention souvenir doll at my first Fashion Royalty convention. She was also my first Vanessa. Rerooted, she is currently on her third body (above, right.)
Some early pictures of her wearing (and not wearing) varied fashions.

When I got my first "Pale Fire" Vanessa, I loved her face and jewelry but I didn't like her hair. I took it down, cut it, rooted in some streaks of another color and styled it.
Here is my original Pale Fire wearing a lovely fashion from the "Haute Luxuries" giftset.
The original PF gown was enormous. There was enough fabric in there for two dresses and although stunning, I took it apart planning a restyle but never got around to it.
Here she is as she looks right now:
She has an FR2 body and looks lovely in Victoire's gown.

Her twin arrived a few months ago and stay unchanged.

Do you ever have "altered dolls" remorse?

Vanessa and Veronique

I never seem to play with my 12" dolls these days. I've redressed so many of them and haven't photographed these changes yet. That's a big difference for me. Tonight I grabbed these two dolls and gave them a little camera time.
First up is a totally redone Veronique. It doesn't even matter who she was originally because she's been repainted twice, rerooted and rebodied. I still want to apply eyelashes again. She did have them once. Vin Trapani repainted and Susan Korba rerooted. Vero is wearing Blue Blood Tatyana's outfit.

The last (real) Vanessa release was the surprise doll at the W Club luncheon during the Wu convention. She originally had a hairstyle that looked like a collapsed tornado about to fall off the front of her forehead. I did not like her look.

I took out all the pins and I was not surprised to find a mess of different lengths and density of rooted hair. I cut it all one length and it still looked crappy. She needs to be re-rooted or wigged. In the meanwhile I played around and created a silly upward swirl. The product called "Got 2 B Glued" was what I used to stiffen her hair. It's great stuff.
Her dress is a shortened version of Most Wanted Elise's gown.  It's very easy (but tedious) to remove the lower tier. I also removed the two dorky bows from the front of the bodice. She is wearing Elise's shoes, jewelry by Joy and carrying the purse from Sheer Bliss. I'm having a talented collector/designer make a jacket from the removed fabric and will show it once I get it.

Barbie, Elise and Veronique

I ordered the new Barbie Basics. I like them. The cost me about $16. each and for that small amount you get an articulated body, nice hair and a Mattel outfit. Not bad. They're fun play dolls to have around. I'm looking forward to taking more pictures of them. The worst thing was taking them out of their ridiculous packaging. A person can get injured removing all that plastic.

Elise told me in no uncertain terms that she will not wear any more boring black clothing. She raided Misaki's stash.
I don't think her sophisticated face and hair go with the pink and orange outfit but it sure was fun.

Finally, I purchased this dress from a gal in or around Czechoslovakia (or somewhere far away like that.)
I love it! This lady shipped the dress so fast I think she's really in Brooklyn. (Actually she is in the Ukraine and her name is Olga Kaltya.)
Here is a rerooted Veronique wearing the garment and looking as gorgeous as only the true Veronique can look. Do you know who this Vero was originally?

My Favorite Fashion Royalty Sculpt, Vanessa

I'm talking about the real Vanessa, not Waldo. This is Aerodynamic Vanessa.

She was repainted by Vin Trapani and given an FR2 body.

I did not like True Royalty Vanessa at first. She had a pushed in face and looked emotionally damaged. She may have been the palest Fashion Royalty doll to have ever been released at that time and would have made a great vampire.

I worked with heat on her head to reshape it. When I still didn't like her, I had her rerooted. No gold ring yet.  The other day, after plucking the chicken feathers out of Go North's gorgeous gown, I put it on True Royalty, combed her hair partially over her face and loved it. Yay!
