A Special Opportunity to (possibly, if you're lucky,) Spend Money

This is an opportunity for members of the W Club to enter a lottery to buy a (really adorable) gift set featuring Poppy Parker in airline attire. Airline stewardesses have been a very popular theme for dolls for a long time and Buttry has created a super collectible duo of fashions for his Poppy.

IT Airways
Poppy Parker™ Dressed Doll Gift Set
The Model Scene Collection
LE 800  Price: $150

The contents of the set are one doll, two outfits, boots, shoes, earrings, wings pin, hat box.

Who remembers the Monsieur Z dolls of 2005? I thought about them the minute I saw the gift set. I still have Fly Girl's serving tray with the carafe and cups.

All About the Rudettes

We've been very occupied with house hunting and I haven't had time to play with my dolls or take any pictures. But...this week Prego's theme is dolls with their pets or their children.  I went through a lot of my photo archives and apparently my Rudettes have wormed their way into tons of pictures during the past  years.

Here are a few of them.

They're just like the real Rudy...involved in everything I do.

Integrity Toys Releases Preliminary Registration Package for Convention

The Integrity Toys/Wu convention will be held in Schaumburg, Illinois on October 6—8, 2011 at the Schaumburg Renaissance Hotel.  This is the weekend of  Yom Kippur.

The theme is Jet Set.
There were a few notable things in the announcement such as the fact that the convention collection will be more limited to ensure it's value on the secondary market. Does that mean there will be less characters or fewer dolls? There has to be at least one doll per attendee so I'm guessing that the collection will be smaller - less characters. Either way wouldn't be a bad idea.

There will also be dolls offered at the convention that are not part of the collection. Grab bags will be limited to one per person. They were supposed to be limited to one per person last year, too.

Apparently, the disappointment of so many who were not able to get a good assortment of products in the Design-A-Doll Studio will be taken into consideration and they are going to try a new format. Would that format be having-enough-for-everyone? What a concept! If I sound a little snarky about that one, I am. I was one of the attendees who was scheduled for a late Saturday appointment in the studio. I thought it was nice until I saw the outfits that earlier attendees were able to choose. They were much better than what was available during my time slot.

The oddest change (I couldn't think of an appropriate adjective for this one) is that workshop attendance will be by lottery. This is very (insert appropriate adjective) because the lotteries are not held publicly and there is definitely hanky panky that goes on behind the scenes. Is that an accusation? Ahem. I said it last year, too. Think what you like but when the one person who loves to be loved is in charge of the outcome of contests, table host positions, stage games, treasure hunts and more, the opportunity for favoritism is rank.

Many comments were made last year about the requirement to put names on raffle tickets and the fact that they were drawn privately. I certainly hope that this practice which has the appearance of impropriety is stopped for the benefit of those who spend their money on the tickets.

The cost per person if staying at the hotel is $380. That includes four meals, lots of souvenirs and the convention doll.  In a later post I will go over how to calculate what attending might actually cost.

As you probably remember, Jason designed a line of dolls in the style of the famous illustrator called Monsieur Z. All of his work was ultra modern jet-set themed 1960's style. Everyone was rich, shapely, had a pool and a penthouse, flew everywhere and spent a lot of time in airports. The stewardesses were sexy, and everything had a forward movement - nothing static here.

Just for fun!
After the announcement the other day, many on the W board were speculating about the theme and I did a search for "jet set dolls." This is what I came up with.

Barbie Glam Jet
Takara's 2002 Kisara Calendar Girl and jason Wu's 2005 Monsieur Z Girl

Assorted Doll Luggage
Westjet Flight Attendant doll with Luggage - Brunette by Daron
Diane Von Furstenberg Barbie Doll-Mattel

Jet Set Jaunt - Tonner Tyler Outfit
Grace Kelly - Jet Set Chic - Mattel

Continental Holiday Silkstone Doll - Mattel

11-29-06 Messing with Dolls

Good dolly day today. I flocked two of the Pompadours that have been waiting for hair. I worked on their lips, too. And I used the modeling material to fill in one of bucky's smiles. (Monsieur Z doll) This will be a test subject. I worked on her eyes and enhanced them as well. Then I painted the lips. I don't have a picture yet. The hole in Erin's nose is now filled in as well. The collection needs lots of work but I'm afraid that I will ruin something so I will just stick to fixing up the less valuable dolls.
The boards have been a little slow this past week. Or perhaps I am looking for too much. Spending too much time at the computer has been a problem for a long time. The time I spent in my studio painting and crafting was very pleasant, indeed. No computer, no television. I do need magnifying eyeglasses. My regular glasses are not strong enough for fine work.

11-25-06 Body Change Chaos

I have had to redress and rearrange about 60% of my collection. I packed away several Silkstones which I don't want out any longer and I am selling some I didn't think I would sell. The new bodies have caused a rift in my collection. I cannot display them in the same case. I have 3 more tall bodies on the way and then I will stop switching. I have left the really special dolls untouched such as Cosmetic Takeover Natalia, Silver Society and Midnight in Monaco.

For several weeks it felt extremely disorganized and I didn't like the feeling. I like to find the perfect outfit for each doll (which changes occasionally) and set her up like that. This was a hodge podge because so many dolls came in so fast. Today I received two wigs from my dealer that I didn't want. Actually one was canceled and the other I never ordered. I'm going to keep them, however. This is not the first time she has sent me something I didn't want. The last time it was a doll but I sold it right away. I just hope my Miami order goes through properly.

The following is a personal message to Madame DeFarge: Thanks. Your actions reminded me that a web log is not a personal journal and that this is a very small world.

10-21-06 Why am I buying these?

So I'm sitting here getting stiff and wasting my life browsing for Kelly items. Ugh. Why? I also want to keep checking the board to see who is offering convention items at a decent price. What is this need to keep accumulating more and more dolls? I have so many that I really love. They have lots of play value and I can barely keep up with photographing them. I really just want their clothes anyway. I don't have room for more dolls. I did manage to score the new Monsieur Z head and dress kit for $10. That was a steal.

So dumb. I don't even really like those faces. I want to close the mouth so she doesn't look like she has buck teeth. It seems to me that Integrity is giving the attendees leftovers as many of the gifts. The outfits from the first day were Playline items. Dressmaker Details gave out the usual blue shoes. The Integrity note cards and billfold with bracelet were new and useless items (to me.) I do like the diorama backdrop. It looks like a good item to use in photos. I'm sure many will be selling that one. I used the Barbie diorama items from the Barbie convention in many shots. That was a worthwhile purchase. And yesterday I made a deal to trade a premium Adele nude for a NRFB Fashion Royalty bed with someone who lives in the state of Washington. I want to set up some dioramas. I recently got some vintage Sindy items such as a room divider and a writing desk with bench. Also got a lounger and some beach umbrellas. That will be fun.

The rerooting of Traveler by Nature Veronique is coming along slowly but nicely. I am using black hair with some plugs of reddish orange. At first it looked like a Halloween wig....then it didn't...but in the end, it will look very contrived. That's OK. I am having fun and it is different.

It's Gothy. If I were going to IFDC next year, she could be entered in that category.
But I'm not.

Here's a funny offer from a buyer. She was interested in both premium Adeles but wanted to know if I would sell just the heads. I replied that I would but the price would be the same. Duh. What would I do with two headless AA bodies?

I have only three AA Fashion Royalty dolls remaining since I decided to stop collecting Adeles. I had all of them at one time and saved my favorite three but they have to go now. Via Venetto Adele was my first Fashion Royalty doll and she will probably be the last Adele to go. Her picture is above. You'd never know it is her because she is wearing a wig.
